“It’s a batshit crazy world so Season One was like a prequel to introduce the non-comic audience to the universe.”

The Preacher panel opened with a band walking in, playing “When the Saints Go Marching In” and it got more outrageous from there.

AMC’s Preacher just started its second season on June 25th and the cast, including Dominic Cooper, Ruth Negga, Ian Colletti, Graham McTavish, and Joseph Gilgun had a lot to share. The SDCC panel, moderated by Chris Hardwick, also included Seth Rogen, executive producer and a writer for Preacher. At one point, Rogen joked that he would be replacing Dominic Cooper and renaming the show to “Rabbi.”

Preacher is based off the comic series of the same name:

“You will be surprised by how much from the comics makes it to the show, sometimes by surprising routes.”

We learn more about Season Two, which has moved locations from Texas to New Orleans:

“The next episode introduces The Grail more fully. It’s the most powerful organization in the world.”

The Grail introduces us to two new characters, Herr Starr and Featherstone:

“Featherstone is highly accomplished and a zealot and there is no line she will not cross.”

We learn more about Cassidy (portrayed by Joseph Gilgun):

“Being with Jesse and Tulip is like rehab for Cassidy. He’s done some really awful things in his past.”

But there is also a potential conflict:

“It’s a bad idea for Jesse to find out that Cassidy and Tulip had sex.”

Jesse (played by Dominic Cooper) is in search of God:

“The fact that Cassidy and Tulip are less invested in finding God than Jesse will become more a part of the story. The darkness in Jesse is going to come more and more to light. It’s questionable whether Jesse is looking for God for personal redemption or to help the world.”

Tulip (Ruth Negga), however, doesn’t feel the same:

“Tulip feels that God abandons people. She wants back the life they had before Dallas and her journey is realizing this is not possible”

Seth Rogen can’t imagine anyone other than Ruth Negga as Tulip:

“Ruth is very interested in defying expectations and likes that Preacher does that.”

Dominic also had this to say:

“It’s the more delicate emotional scenes that need talking through and working out which can take more time than action.”

From arse-faced masks to a preponderance of glitter, the Preacher Panel was as inappropriate and delightful as the show itself.

“Dominic dumped glitter over Joseph earlier today and it’s everywhere.”
