“The story wants you to tell it as much as you do, and a lot of it is the chemistry between the actors.”
Freeform didn’t just bring one hit series to NYCC 2017 this year – they brought two! Paired with the hit fantasy series Shadowhunters, Freeform’s Beyond came ready to bring us into their world during their panel at Madison Square Garden on Saturday, October 7th.
The successful science fiction series is about a young man, Holden, who wakes up from a coma after 12 years. He discovers new supernatural abilities that propel him into the middle of a dangerous conspiracy. We follow him as he tries to remember the years he’s lost while attempting to settle back into regular life. Along the way, he meets both Charlie and Willa, two young women with their own hidden secrets.
Beyond debuted exclusive, never-before-seen, action-packed footage for the upcoming season, followed by a Q&A panel with cast members Burkely Duffield, Dilan Gwyn and Eden Brolin, and executive producers Adam Nussdorf, Tim Kring and David Eick. The panel was moderated by Damian Holbrook of TV Guide.
Speaking on the direction they took for this new season, we were told
“The story wants you to tell it as much as you do, and a lot of it is the chemistry between the actors.”
Executive producers Adam and Tim jokingly told us that the reason why Eden got the part as Charlie was because
“She came in and did it completely different. She was doing it completely wrong in the audition!”
Staying on the topic of Charlie, Eden added that
“I think she has to earn the trust of the audience again through the other characters, but I’m not sure she can be trusted.”
After we had a chance to recover from the intense sneak peek, we were told that the show would delve more into Willa’s past history. Meanwhile, Dilan commented
“I think season two is a lot of Willa finding herself. She has this idea of what a normal girl does.”
We know that something came back from the Realm after Holden and Willa closed the bridge. When asked about that, the EPs teased it is
“Something that could do a lot of harm to Holden and everyone Holden cares about.”
Luckily for him, we’re also told that
“He’ll have some help from a couple of new characters.”
Of course, not everything is sunshine and roses, because season two introduces a new character named Diego, and
“He’s someone who will give Holden a run for his money…we based him on Lucifer.”
Before ending, the EPs surprised us by announcing on December 28th there will be sneak peeks and behind the scenes footage for season two! With this much going on in season two, can you blame us for being annoyed we have to wait? In the meantime, hang tight for our cast interviews with Burkely, Dilan, and Eden, along with EPs Tim, Adam, and David!
