SDCC 2017: Freeform Returns with Hit Original Series “Shadowhunters” and “Stitchers”

Freeform announces its return to San Diego Comic Con 2017 with Shadowhunters and Stitchers panels and autograph sessions

Unless you’ve been living under a rock (or don’t have cable/satellite) this summer, you know that Freeform‘s summer schedule burst back onto our televisions with a bang this year.  Leading the charge are two of the network’s hit original series: Shadowhunters and Stitchers.  Disney’s young adult television and streaming network, announced today that it will be bringing cast and executive producers from both shows to San Diego Comic-Con.  Fans of the two shows can gorge themselves on all things Shadowhunters and Stitchers on Thursday, July 20th.

Starting with Stitchers, attendees will be given exclusive sneak peeks and behind-the-scenes stories from the show.  Panelists include executive producer Jeff Schechter and with series stars Emma Ishta, Kyle Harris, Ritesh Rajan and Damon Dayoub. Freeform will also show an exclusive clip from an upcoming episode this season. The panel will be moderated by TV Guide’s Damian Holbrook, and will start at 12:00 p.m. at the Hilton Bayfront’s Indigo Ballroom.  Immediately following, the cast and creators of Shadowhunters will take the stage to spill secrets on season three, and show an exclusive clip from an upcoming episode.  Panelists include executive producers Todd Slavkin, Darren Swimmer and Matt Hastings, and series stars Katherine McNamara, Dominic Sherwood, Alberto Rosende, Emeraude Toubia, Matthew Daddario, Isaiah Mustafa and Harry Shum Jr. The panel will be moderated by IGN’s Matt Fowler, and will start at 1:00 p.m. at the Hilton Bayfront’s Indigo Ballroom.

Shadowhunters, a paranormal fantasy series based on The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare, propelled off the success of the books and put their own spin on our favorite characters.  The show follows an eighteen year old girl named Clary Fray as she discovers there is a world hidden just beyond what your eyes see.  Shadowhunters has continued to gain in popularity with its original storylines, diverse cast, gorgeous soundtrack, and main LGBT storylines.  Season two has been split into two halves, with 2B airing over this past summer and picking up with the growing conflict between the Downworlders and the Clave.  Whether you’re a Climon, Clace, Sizzy, Saphael, Malec, or any other shipper, Shadowhunters has been bringing the drama.

As a counter to the Shadow world, Stitchers brings with it a science (fiction) driven show of geektastic proportions.  Created by Jeffrey Schechter, the show focuses on a top secret NSA program in which neuroscientists “stitch” into the mind of a dead person in order to solve crimes.  Imagine Pushing Daisies, but without people coming back to life.  Viewers are introduced into the stitch lab through the eyes of college graduate student Kirsten Clark, whose temporal dysplasia (read: she can’t tell time) makes her an ideal for stitching.  Throw in government conspiracies, a missing mother, a saphhic romance, and the all mighty Camsten, and you’ve got season three.  The show’s loyal fans banded together to bring the show back for this season, and another petition is in the works for season four.

If that’s not enough for you, it was recently announced that cast and crew from both shows will also be signing autographs up in the Sails Pavilion.

Stitchers: Thursday, July 20th at 10:30 – 11:30 AM at AA03

Shadowhunters: Thursday, July 20th at 4 – 5 PM at AA04

Tickets will likely be required, so please check in with the autograph table for more details.

So, tell us, who are you most excited to see?  Which is your favorite show and why?  Leave us a comment!
