Syfy’s ‘Ghost Wars’ Leaves A Haunting Impression On SDCC 2017

Who you gonna call when you have to face your fears?

“It’s physically impossible to stuff somebody into their own mouth.”

Ghost Wars is a new paranormal series set in a remote Alaskan town plagued by ghosts and is set to air this Fall on Syfy and Netflix. Series star Avan Jogia plays Roman Mercer who must overcome his own personal obstacles in order to use his psychic abilities to help save the town of Port Moore. On Saturday, July 22, fans were treated to a first look at the new series as well as a panel discussion with the cast and showrunners in Room 6DE at the San Diego Convention Center for Comic-Con 2017.

Firstly, if you haven’t checked out the trailer for Ghost Wars yet, stop right here, watch it, and come back to read this post. The Ghost Wars trailer has to be one of the most insane and frightening trailers we have ever seen for a television show. So naturally, when we had the opportunity to sit down with cast members, Avan Jogia, Vincent D’Onofrio, Kandyse McClure, Meat Loaf and Showrunner Simon Barry, executive producers Chad Oakes, Michael Frislev and executive producer/writer Dennis Heaton, we wanted to know if they had their own personal experiences with the paranormal. It turns out that Dennis recalled a time when he had an encounter with a ghost stating,

“When I was nine I saw a ghost when I was camping and it was like in a cottage. It was like one of those things where we heard a ghost story a couple of days earlier and then I saw it.”

In a sea full of supernatural shows, we wanted to know why should viewers be tuning into Ghost Wars every week. When asked, Michael Frislev replied,

“It’s just a great combination between cast, and storytelling. And I think it’s eerie and compelling. It draws you in and doesn’t let you go. There’s lots of twists and turns and brilliant performances by this magnificent cast.”

When talking with the cast and showrunners we noticed that almost every single person talked about how our fears are personal. When Simon was asked about his own personal fears he jokingly said that it was sitting at the table talking with all of us, but he later added,

“I think my personal fear is probably… I think… I think just being alone. Like, not having anybody.”

One of the standouts we took away from the trailer was the use of visual effects and props. Ghost Wars may not have the budget of a mega studio, but from the looks of the trailer, their VFX team has done an exceptional job with what they have. Will you be facing your personal demons with the cast of Ghost Wars this Fall on Syfy?
