The History Channel Actually Held a Viking Funeral at Comic Con

A Funeral Fit for a Viking

History Channel’s Vikings is no stranger to death, so it is quite fitting that they brought show stars Katheryn Winnick (Lagertha), Gustaf Skarsgard (Floki), Alexander Ludwig (Bjorn), Alex Høgh Anderson (Ivar the Boneless), and Michael Hirst (Vikings creator/writer) to send off a few of their fallen comrades.

Fans gathered after the conclusion of the show’s Comic Con panel to join a funeral procession through San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter. Waiting for them at the end? A 45-foot replica of a Viking ship that burned merrily as the cast gave interviews and met with the crowd. Rest in Peace, Ragnar Lothbrok and the other lost Vikings — your funeral was awesome.

VIKINGS Season 5 will premiere Wednesday, NOVEMBER 29 at 9/8C on the History Channel
