Live-Action ‘Titans’ Series & ‘Young Justice: Outsiders’ Announced by Warner Bros. & DC Entertainment

Live-Action adaptation of smash DC hit ‘Teen Titans’, and long-awaited third season of ‘Young Justice’, to premiere in 2018

Young Justice: Outsiders

The superhero market and fandom are about to get a bit bigger with a major announcement from Warner Bros. Television and DC Entertainment. It was announced on April 25 that the live-action dramatic series ‘Titans’, in addition to the long hoped-for third season of breakout hit ‘Young Justice’, are in the early stages of production and are set to premiere in 2018.

Both series will premiere exclusively on a direct-to-consumer digital service operated by Warner Bros. Digital Networks Group, a service which Warner Bros. hopes will “deliver an immersive experience designed just for DC fans”, according to the announcement.

‘Titans’ is described as follows from the announcement:

““Titans” follows a group of young soon-to-be Super Heroes recruited from every corner of the DC Universe. In this action-packed series, Dick Grayson emerges from the shadows to become the leader of a fearless band of new heroes, including Starfire, Raven and many others. “Titans” is a dramatic, live-action adventure series that will explore and celebrate one of the most popular comic book teams ever.”

Those driving ‘Titans’ are executive producers Akiva Goldsman (“Star Trek: Discovery,” “Underground”), Geoff Johns (President & Chief Creative Officer, DC Entertainment; “The Flash,” “Arrow”), Greg Berlanti (“Arrow,” “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow,” “The Flash,” “Supergirl”) and Sarah Schechter (“Arrow,” “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow,” “The Flash,” “Supergirl”), with Goldsman, Johns, and Berlanti also writing.

Then there’s the Young Justice side of things. Fans of the animated hit, which gained a passionate following that laid the groundwork for a third season, will likely find a lot to be excited about with the upcoming third season’s storyline. The announcement describes it as follows:

“In “Young Justice: Outsiders,” the teenage Super Heroes of the DC Universe come of age in an animated world of super-powers, Super-Villains and super secrets. In the highly anticipated new season, the team faces its greatest challenge yet as it takes on meta-human trafficking and the terrifying threat it creates for a society caught in the crossfire of a genetic arms race spanning the globe and the galaxy.”

The team in charge of ‘Young Justice: Outsiders’ are Sam Register (“Teen Titans Go!”, “Justice League Action”), as executive producer, Brandon Vietti (“Batman: Under the Red Hood”, “Superman: Doomsday”), and Greg Weisman (“Star Wars: Rebels”, “Gargoyles”), as producers, and Emmy Award winner Phil Bourassa (“Young Justice,” “Justice League Dark,” “Teen Titans: The Judas Contract”) as art director.

In particular, he is deeply passionate about the raw potential that television has for innovative and creative forms of storytelling. His favorite television show (that's fandom-oriented) is a tough tie between CW's The Flash and Marvel's Daredevil. He's also a huge fan of both The CW's DC televised universe and Marvel's Netflix universe.
